Location: Chelsea, MA

Project: Chelsea Station

Product: Side platforms

Overview: For the new station on its silver line, MBTA selected FRP for its' long life, low maintenance, and fast installation. Supported on concrete piers spaced at 32 to 36 feet, the panels were cross-sloped for water drainage. Forty-eight panels span pier to pier and were 10 or 12 feet wide. The top surface has a shop applied non-slip overlay and warning tactiles. A rub rail was included. Panels were fabricated with attachment locations for railings, signs, benches, and other equipment.

Since panels were installed during night shifts, it was important that the lightweight panels could be placed quickly for these side platforms at 800 feet long each.
